Tristan Peters drew an 18-pitch walk against Cleveland starter Gavin Williams in the sixth inning of a scoreless game, ending Williams' night at a season-high 113 pitches. Peters fouled off 12 pitches during the plate appearance, which was the longest in MLB this season and tied for the third-most pitches in a plate appearance since 2000. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it tied for the most pitches in a plate appearance that ended in a walk since 2000.

The walk opened the floodgates for Chicago, which scored six runs in the sixth inning. On the next play, a throw from first baseman Nathaniel Lowe struck Peters in the helmet, allowing Andrew Benintendi to score the first run. Kyle Teel followed with a two-run double and Miguel Vargas hit a two-run homer, his 31st of the season. Chicago had been 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position in the first four innings.

The White Sox won 7-3 to push their lead over Cleveland to 1 1/2 games in the AL Central. Chicago improved to 7-4 against the Guardians and clinched the season series and tiebreaker. Sean Burke pitched five innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits to earn the win. The White Sox, who lost 102 games and finished last in 2025, have led the division since July 4.
