The story

Three people were killed and four wounded when gunfire erupted at the Bite of Seattle food festival near the Space Needle around 6 p.m. local time on Sunday. The dead were identified as two men, ages 19 and 44, and a 56-year-old woman. Among the wounded was a 2-year-old boy who was in stable condition. Two men in their twenties and a 39-year-old woman were discharged from the hospital after treatment.

A 15-year-old was arrested and appeared in juvenile court on Monday, where a judge ordered him held in detention on suspicion of three counts of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He had not been involved in a criminal case before in the county. Prosecutors said the gunfight involved the 15-year-old, the 19-year-old man who died at the scene, and possibly a third person. A police officer less than 100 feet away allegedly saw the 15-year-old holding a handgun and firing into the crowd.

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson said police believe at least two people exchanged gunfire outside the Seattle Center Armory. Officials said the shooting could be gang-related, with two groups firing. Police will review camera footage, analyze bullet casings, and follow additional leads to establish what took place. The Bite of Seattle food festival, founded in 1982, had been running from Friday to Sunday.
