Senator Lindsey Graham was honored Tuesday at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, where Vice President JD Vance, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and Rep. Sheri Biggs delivered remarks. Graham's remains were carried by an Armed Forces Body Bearer team in recognition of his Air Force service, then replaced by a U.S. Capitol Police memorial guard. A funeral service was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Washington National Cathedral, where President Trump was expected to speak. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were also expected to attend.

Graham, 71, died on July 11 from an aortic dissection after returning from a trip to Ukraine. His sister Darline Graham, appointed by Governor Henry McMaster to serve his term, attended the Capitol ceremony and placed her palm on his flag-draped casket as tears appeared to trickle down her cheeks. She has President Trump's endorsement in the Republican primary to succeed her brother in the Senate.

Thune said he felt Graham's absence every day and that senators on both sides of the aisle counted him as a friend. Vance called Graham a true American original and said it was impossible not to like him. A South Carolina funeral service was scheduled for July 29, starting with a procession from the State House to First Baptist Church of Columbia, with an F-16 flyover at 11 a.m.
