The Columbus Blue Jackets signed goalie Cam Talbot to a one-year, $950,000 contract on Monday. The 39-year-old was 12-9-6 with a 3.19 goals-against average and an .883 save percentage in 34 games for the Detroit Red Wings last season.

The move addresses a depth need with Elvis Merzlikins out indefinitely after having shoulder surgery on August 17. Jet Greaves, who won the No. 1 job last season, will be joined by Talbot and Pheonix Copley as the goalies on the roster with NHL experience entering training camp this week.

Talbot, who was undrafted, has played 567 regular-season games over 13 years with eight NHL teams, posting a 278-204-53 record with a 2.69 goals-against average and an .883 save percentage. The Blue Jackets open their preseason against Detroit on September 21 and host Buffalo on October 1 to start the regular season.
