President Trump urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Monday to keep the Senate in session until it passes the SAVE America Act or eliminates the 60-vote legislative filibuster. The Senate is in its last two weeks of session before an extended recess, with lawmakers due to return to DC Sept. 14. The recess is set to begin around Aug. 7.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that Thune should not allow the Senate to leave town until it passes the SAVE America Act or terminates the filibuster, where Republicans could then quickly pass everything they ever dreamed of, including the budget and the debt ceiling. Thune has repeatedly insisted that Republicans do not have the votes to pass the bill through regular order. Changing Senate rules to eliminate the filibuster also needs 60 votes.

Sens. Mike Lee and Rick Scott have announced they will object to any effort to send the Senate into August recess until the SAVE America Act is passed. Lee could force a vote if he wants to on whether or not to adjourn. Last week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt warned that Trump's patience was running out with Thune over the legislation, prompting Thune to respond that the White House should focus on Democrats blocking the bill and work the phones to flip Republicans like Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski who have voted against it.
