The Odyssey leaked on X, viewed over 2 million times before takedown

The story

A high-quality bootleg version of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey was viewed more than 2.1 million times on X on Saturday before the platform took it down and suspended the account within three hours, according to Variety. The post was shared at 2:25 p.m. Pacific. On Sunday, a lower-quality copy was removed after accumulating nearly 50,000 views in about two hours, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Universal Pictures said in a statement it became aware of the unauthorized posting and immediately initiated takedown protocols. The studio added it takes copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect its content and intellectual property rights.

The Odyssey pulled in $87 million domestically in its second weekend and has grossed over $639 million globally since opening on July 17. The film, which is nearly three hours long and R-rated, had a $124.5 million opening week, making it the third-largest debut of the year. Demand for IMAX 70mm tickets remains high, though there are only about 40 such theaters worldwide.
