Thailand will reduce visa-free stays from 60 days to 30 days starting September 15 for travelers from 93 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and European Union nations. The country had raised the limit from 30 to 60 days in 2024 to promote tourism.

Thai lawmakers cited high-profile crimes committed by foreigners on tourist visas and the rise of foreigners using the visa-free period to run illegal businesses as reasons for the change. Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow said in March that the ministry believes 60 days may be too long.

Countries with reciprocal 90-day agreements like South Korea, Peru, and Argentina remain unaffected. Citizens of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore will also keep the 60-day allowance. Travelers who entered Thailand before September 15 can stay the full 60 days. Visitors can request a 30-day extension at a Thai Immigration Bureau office once per year or leave and re-enter the country.
