The story

Starz released the trailer for S.W.A.T. Exiles, which premieres September 25 with new episodes airing weekly on Fridays. The spinoff stars Shemar Moore reprising his role as LAPD S.W.A.T. Sergeant Daniel Hondo Harrelson. After a botched raid ends in the death of a young operator, Nico Reyes, Hondo must walk away from his badge. His old commanding officer, Robert Hicks, played by Patrick St. Esprit, offers him a chance to create a new S.W.A.T. unit built from Los Angeles' most talented rejects.

The new squad includes Sammy Bishop, a gun-show influencer played by Lucy Barrett, Ethan Cole, a socially awkward tactical savant played by Freddy Miyares, Cassidy Reed played by Zyra Gorecki, wildcard Jude Callan played by Ronen Rubinstein, and Malik Anderson played by Adain Bradley. Original cast members Jay Harrington and David Lim also return. As the Exiles take on threats including cartel assassins and gun-runners, Hondo discovers someone inside the unit has been feeding information to outside interests.

The original S.W.A.T. reboot premiered on CBS in 2017 and was canceled after its sixth season, brought back for a seventh and final season, then returned for an eighth season before being canceled again in March 2025. The series finale aired two months later. Just two days after the finale, Sony Pictures Television commissioned the 10-episode spinoff without a network partner. Jason Ning serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Moore, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, James Scura, and Jon Cowan.
