A Russian drone struck the locomotive of a passenger train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw on Sunday morning, just two kilometers from the Polish border in Ukraine's Volyn region, according to Ukrainian Railways. No one was injured. In a separate incident, a drone hit a gas station near the Yahodyn border crossing, just 800 meters from Poland, setting fire to the building and nearby trucks. The border crossing was temporarily closed but reopened by 10 a.m. local time Sunday.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the strikes were Putin's terror knocking directly on the doors of the EU and NATO. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski described the strike as a Russian escalation. Polish authorities said the train carried 208 people, while another source reported 206 passengers. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had deliberately burned a train locomotive and damaged a gas station, and that Russia had fired more than 2,000 drones at Ukraine in the past week alone.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt were traveling on a train from Kyiv that received an evacuation warning but proceeded safely to Poland. Bildt said the train immediately after theirs was hit by the drone and was evacuated with no injuries. Johnson had been attending the 2026 Yalta European Strategy meeting in Kyiv. Separately, Ukraine's military said it struck the TANECO oil refinery in Russia's Tatarstan republic, and Tatarstan officials said two civilians were killed.
