The story

Netflix will release Season 4 of The Diplomat on October 15, the streamer announced, dropping a teaser trailer and first look images. The eight episode season stars Keri Russell as Kate Wyler and Rufus Sewell as Hal Wyler, with Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford returning as series regulars along with Ato Essandoh, Ali Ahn, Nana Mensah, and Rory Kinnear.

Season 3 ended with Kate discovering that her husband Hal, now vice president, and President Grace Penn secretly conspired to steal a Russian nuclear weapon, a plot Kate is now implicated in. The new season sees Kate trying to repair her marriage while working with first gentleman Todd Penn to stop the Grace-Hal alliance. According to the official synopsis, one catastrophic moment shatters the fragile peace Kate brokered between the U.S. and U.K., and the conspiracy to steal Russia's most powerful weapon hurtles the United States toward war.

The show was created by Debora Cahn, who serves as executive producer alongside Russell, Janice Williams, Alex Graves, Peter Noah, and Eli Attie. Russell has received an outstanding lead actress Emmy nomination for every season of The Diplomat. Janney, Whitford, and Sewell were all nominated for the 2026 Emmys.
