The story

Netflix announced on September 1 that The One About Matthew Perry, a three-part documentary series, will debut on October 27. The series is directed by Mary Robertson, who directed Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV and executive produced Framing Britney Spears. The documentary will feature never-before-heard testimonies from Perry's sister Mia Perry Bowick and his lifelong best friends, along with unreleased photos and videos from the Perry family's private archive.

Perry died in October 2023 at age 54. His cause of death was the acute effects of ketamine, with drowning, coronary artery disease, and effects of buprenorphine listed as contributing factors. The manner of death was ruled an accident. Five people were arrested and sentenced in connection with providing the drug to Perry.

Bowick said in a statement that it has taken time for her to feel ready to share memories of loving Matthew through the complexity of his life. Robertson said Perry was one of the comedic geniuses of our time and that the public only knew part of his story. It is not yet known whether any of the Friends cast will appear in the docuseries.
