The story

Fontaines D.C. announced their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, set for release on October 16 via XL Recordings. The album was produced by James Ford, who produced their previous albums Romance and Skinty Fia. The lead single, Marianne, is out now with a music video directed by Dave Meyers. The song was partly inspired by the 2024 thriller series Ripley starring Andrew Scott.

Frontman Grian Chatten said the album explores themes including AI, celebrity gossip, political violence, and climate change. He traveled through Venice, Sicily, and Vienna while writing lyrics. The album was recorded in London, the English countryside, and Palermo, where Chatten built a DIY vocal booth from mattresses and cushions. Chatten described the album as more corrupted than Romance, saying it is 60 percent corrupted versus 40 percent human, calling it a catastrophic warning.

Romance, released in 2024, was nominated for the Mercury Prize and for Best Rock Album at the 67th Grammy Awards. The single Starburster was nominated for Best Alternative Music Performance. Romance was certified platinum and peaked at number 2 on the UK Official Albums Chart and number 97 on the Billboard 200. The band won the 2025 BRIT award for international group. Fontaines D.C. will play festivals including Reading and Leeds, Shaky Knees, Electric Picnic, and Sea.Hear.Now through late September.
