The story

Mia Bieniemy, 57, wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was shot multiple times Sunday night at the couple's home in Ashburn, Virginia. Deputies responded to the 20000 block of Northpark Drive at 7:32 p.m. and found her suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries. According to Chiefs coach Andy Reid, Mia Bieniemy is in stable condition.

Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, the couple's son, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. Eric Bieniemy was with the Chiefs at training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, earlier Sunday and was not present for Monday's practice.

The Chiefs confirmed Bieniemy is currently away from the team. Passing game coordinator Joe Bleymaier will handle offensive coordinator duties while Bieniemy is on leave. Bieniemy, 56, returned to the Chiefs as offensive coordinator in January after serving as running backs coach for the Chicago Bears in 2025. He previously held the same position with Kansas City from 2018 to 2022.
